FIFTY YEARS OF ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
It has been fifty years since the establishment of many landmark environmental statutes and agencies. The early to mid-1970s saw the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency and Florida Department of Regulation, which would later become the foundation of what is now the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. PIEC 28 will critically analyze this golden age of American environmental policy with a strong focus on the modern applicability and potency of statues that all share 50th anniversaries in the year 2022. We will also explore environmentalism in an international context, paying special attention to global cooperation since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment.
Relevant Statutes/Events:
- 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm Conference)
- Clean Water Act of 1972
- Coastal Management Act of 1972
- Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972
- Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972
- Florida Water Resources Act of 1972
